When traveling in Rautavaara you will have plenty of choises of nature attractions. You can go any direction from Kestitupa and you will not be disappointed!
Right near Kestitupa are hills of Nurmesmäki and Kipari. And about 10 km away is magnificent hike trail called Huuhkajankierros, also a beach called Rouskunhiekka and a guided trail named Kaivannon kierto.
There is an art nature trail in Harsumäki that is a real treat!
Tiilikanselkä Natura-areas in Älänne are only about 15 minutes away from Kestitupa. There you can admire the pine covered hills by hiking or canoeing.
The most beatiful traditional view in Savo is found on top of Nikinmäki, where you can see the glistening Lake Keyritty.
The most well-known nature attractions in Rautavaara are Pumpulikirkko and Tiilikka-preserve. They offer marvellous and well guided trails.
Near the border of Nurmes you will find Raesärkät. These are the most clear watered ponds you will ever find. And the best of all, they are not widely known by the turist yet, even though you can get close to them by a car. And when traveling in Ylä-Luosta, be sure to rent a canoe or go on a guided canoe tour to River Vaarajoki or Lake Luostanjärvi.
